Sports MATES are students within our sports clubs that we will put you in contact with so you can meet a friendly face and find out more about the sports union and any clubs you are interested in.

MATES is the Sport and Student Union’s way to help you meet new people, make friends and get a personalised introduction to any club or society you want!

It’s open to all students (Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught, Postgraduate Research) at all our UK campuses and across all disciplines. 

We know it can be tricky to make friends at University, MATES is here to make it that bit easier to connect with people who we know you’ll be fast friends with. 

Also we know it can be a bit awkward turning up to events on your own and meeting lots of new people all at once. With MATES, we can match you up with members of clubs and societies you’re interested in so you can have your own personal introduction to the group too.

MATES gives you the option to hear from the Advice Hub and Wellbeing Services as well so you can see how they can help you during your time at Heriot-Watt.

We’ll be checking in to see how you and your new MATES are getting on, and give you brilliant conversation starters and activity ideas to make those first few meetups go as smoothly as possible.
