The 2026 Sports Union Ball took place on Friday 27 February, bringing together more than 530 students and colleagues to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our sports clubs over the past year.
Hosted at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre, the evening showcased the talent, commitment and community spirit that define sport at our University. Check out the video to find out more about what the Sports Union can offer.
Below are this year’s Sports Ball award winners, recognised for their contribution both on and off the field:
Our Rugby club was awarded Club of the Year, recognising a period marked by outstanding achievement, significant membership growth, and strong community engagement. Membership has expanded to over 150 students this year, while proactive networking efforts have secured more than 20 new sponsors, greatly enhancing the club’s long-term financial stability.
Digital engagement has continued to grow, with Instagram posts reaching thousands and a revitalised alumni network now connecting more than 400 members. Key events such as weekly socials, a sponsor-hosted meal with 70+ attendees, and the annual Rugby Ball with 180+ guests continue to demonstrate the club’s strong community spirit.
This combination of competitive success, organisational strength, and community impact makes our Rugby Club a highly deserving recipient of Club of the Year.
Last season, the men’s 3rd XV lifted the Conference Trophy, the 1st XV finished just one point short of the league title, and the women’s team continued to cement themselves as a dominant force in the top Scottish league. This year, the success has only grown: both the men’s 2s and 3s have reached their respective cup finals, while the 1st XV are still in contention for the league title that would see them promoted into BUCS Premier North. Oriam has become a true fortress, drawing hundreds of supporters into the indoor pitch stands every Wednesday afternoon – check out the video to experience the atmosphere for yourself!
