This year the Sports Union welcomed it latest Watt family member in the shape of the lifting club. The club were unanimously voted to become a constituted member of the Sports Union by the other 32 member clubs at the SU AGM after a successful first year.

Lifting Club

The club was formed in 2022, looking to provide weightlifting and powerlifting to the SU. The club has proved very popular in its first year, filling up all of its taster sessions and with over 40 members joining the club led by a strong club committee.

The club entered 7 students into a novice powerlifting competition in December, giving students a flavour of what competitive lifting is all about. This was followed up with 4 entries into the Scottish Uni Comp later in the year.

In weightlifting, the club entered 2 students into the Scottish Uni’s competition held at Edinburgh University.
