Watt a month November has been for our clubs, some fantastic Watt Wins, fundraisers and socials!
This is your November roundup of all that has happened in the past month and what there is to look forward to in The New Year! With us coming to the end of the semester and into the dreaded exam season there is much to celebrate and reflect on.
Movember
The start of November brought the start of our annual Movember campaign, with our lofty target of £15,000 set by the Movember committee. Through some inspiring individual efforts, creative club fundraisers and teh occasional SU event, managed to raise over an incredible £24,000!
Both Aonghus Sellar and Calum Macpherson deserve huge credit being our Movember ambassadors for this years campaign! Aonghus himself raised £2,750, while Football Club’s Tamara Brett raised £1,540 and American Football’s Theo Harrison-Drummond raised £1,233.
With 7 clubs raising over £1,000 and 20 clubs raising over £200, it really has been a Campaign to remember! Well done to everyone who got involved and donated to this brilliant cause.
Take a look at the top 5 clubs below!

2 | Rugby | £2,965.24 |

Strictly Come Dancing
In week 12 we held our annual Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser for our partner charity Lothian Disability Sport (LDS) at Liquid Rooms. Over 450 people were in attendance on the night (a week before exams!) to cheer on our 11 couples representing 22 different clubs. The event was brilliantly hosted by Cammie and Jack from Netball and Basketball.
The night saw an opening dance from the sports ambassadors, to a Mamma Mia medley as well as a half time show from the dance club both expertly choreographed by Hope Riley!
The judges scores, combines with the donations for each couple determined the top two couples who would go onto the dance off to be crowned Strictly champion 2022. Our top two couples were , Nesse & Fraser dancing the Jive representing Netball and Athletics, and Emma and Dylan dancing the Tango representing Football and American Football.
Well done everyone who stepped onto the stage as well as all the mentors from the dance club, helping raise over £2,600 for LDS! However, there can only be one winner, and the judges crowned Nesse & Fraser Strictly Champions. Take a look at the winning moment below!
Scholar Success
Both our Squash and Football Scholars have had a brilliant start to their BUCS league campaigns.
The squash scholars saw off Warwick in North Premier Playoff, winning 4-1, and now enter the top 4 playoff against Birmingham, UWE and Nottingham in the New Year.
Our Men’s Football scholars sit joint top of Scottish 1A following big wins against Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. A big second half of the season will determine their league success. The lads claimed Edinburgh bragging rights doing the league double over their biggest rivals, with an impressive 5-1 home win at Oriam.
BUCS
There were more impressive wins in November taking us to a total of 112 Watt Wins!
It was Volleyball Men’s 1s who took Novembers first Watt Win of the Week beating UWS 1s 3-0, extending their impressive unbeaten start to the season. The team currently sit joint top of BUCS 2A with 3three game left to play.
It was then the turn of our American Football team to bring home another big Watt Win of the Week with another win against UWS 1s. A resounding 53-0 performance with the Watt Wolves proving too much for UWS. The team are 4-0 sitting top of tier 2A with a league decider against Napier set for Peffermill in February!
The next Watt Win wasn’t so straight forward. A close 22-20 home win for our Men’s Rugby 2’s against a strong Dundee 2’s after drawing earlier in the season saw the lads be crowned BUCS win of the week! The team are sitting 2nd in BUCS 3A, with 3 games left to play next semester.
The final Watt Win of the Week of the semester was awarded the to the Women’s Football team after the defeated St Andrews 3s a convincing 5-2. The girls currently sit two points clear at the top of Tier 3A with two games left to play against Dundee and Glasgow Caley. Four points from those next two matches would see the girls crowned champions, promoting them to tier 2A.
