Newsletter – October

What a month it has been!

This is your October roundup of all that has happened in the past month and what there is to look forward to in November! With us passing the half way mark in the semester there is a lot to look back on and celebrate!

BUCS Competition

Following on from the success of Watt Big Wednesday, we have seen some fantastic Watt Wins and performances from our clubs!

Our Men’s Cricket team brought home their first Watt Win of the Indoor BUCS Season defeating St Andrews 1s, limiting them to 114/5 and winning with 8 wickets to spare 116/2! The win was also the clubs first ever Indoor BUCS win in their short 2 year history! Special Mention to Usman who’s skil with both bat and ball helped bring home the Win!

A week later Netball 1s beat Edinburgh 3s 38-58 in BUCS Div 2 away from home to record a historic victory at pleasance. This was the first time in recent memory that the team had got one over their closest rivals and fully deserving the Watt Win of Week title. Special Mention to Sports Scholar Beth Logan who was awarded player of the match.

It was next the turn of Men’s Rugby 1s to win an Edinburgh derby, again away from home at Peffermill. The lads dug in to bring home a confident 9 point victory 27-36, Watt a shift. The lads are shaping up well in the league, with games coming thick and fast in both league and cup.

The Watt Win Counter now stands at 44!

The SU Ceilidh

Watt a night we had at Murrayfield with the return of the SU Ceilidh. With over 570 of you in attendance it really was a night to remember! Hopefully you all had a fantastic night and got some great pitch side photos! The vent also saw the return of the infamous Ceilidh Dance off with Netball bringing home all the pride and bragging rights that anyone could dream of! You can find the rest of the Ceilidh Photos here!

Charities Exec

At the start of October, you elected your new Charites Exec, Calum Macpherson. Being a part of both the volleyball and Ruby club Calum has a great wealth of SU knowledge and is a great fit for the role. He has already begun planning the Sports Union Strictly Come Dancing fundraiser which is taking place at liquid rooms on 30th November.

Tickets for the event go on sale on Friday the 4th November at midday so be sure to get them while you can. All profits from the event go to our partner charity Lothian Disability Sport.

Movember

With the start of November brings the start of our Movember campaign. This year there is another action packed campaign to raise money and awareness for men’s cancers and mental health.

Be sure to support your clubs campaign as well as the Sports Unions by growing, moving, giving or sharing the campaign.
