About Our Club
Heriot Watt Basketball Club’s ambition is to provide basketball & social opportunities for all.
We are always welcoming new members, regardless of ability or previous playing experience, as we have competitive and recreational teams catered to all abilities.
As well as offering training and competitive matches every week during university term times, we also take delight in providing social opportunities for everyone. A usual Wednesday afternoon would consist of playing our BUCS league games during the day and then heading over to our sponsor Bar 50, located in Cowgate, to chat all things basketball and catch up with everyone from the club! However, we also run other “on and off court” and “off pub” socials. Plenty fun for everyone.
We are also very lucky to have Oriam, The National Sports Performance Centre of Scotland, as our universities partner. With an Oriam membership you have all day access to book into the gym and book any of four basketball courts to get shots up, scrimmage and to just improve your game in your own time! Once your Oriam membership has been purchased through the Our Oriam app you can join any club in the Sports Union (but most importantly basketball!)
We have a dedicated and capable leadership team that makes sure everything is running smoothly and that all our members are enjoying the HWU Basketball experience to the full.
If you want to get in contact with us for any reason whatsoever, you can fire an email to the club President, Jack Meldrum, firstname.lastname@example.org , he’ll be thrilled to hear from you.
Our club charter
We aim to provide the following service for our members:
- To provide an opportunity for any student to participate in a regular form of Basketball appropriate to their desire and ability.
- To provide a comprehensive training and competition programme to enable the competitive teams to perform in their respective leagues.
- To provide an opportunity for members to gain an unforgettable social experience through the sport.
What does a typical season involve?
It’s a very exciting season to get involved in training and playing with the Basketball Club. This season sees our club hold the most training slots its ever had, while our competitive teams will play across 5 leagues; again, the most in the club’s history. Meanwhile, members in the Men’s or Women’s Development Squads will participate in an increased number of friendly and development fixtures and competitions so all members are participating and enjoying the sport. We are incredibly fortunate to have Oriam, The National Sports Performance Centre of Scotland, as our outstanding home court and training facility, located on our campus
With an Oriam membership, members are able to book Oriam courts to practice, scrimmage and improve in their own time. As a club, we would encourage as many members as possible to take advantage of this excellent opportunity.
