How did you get into your sport?
When I was 9 there was a Summer rackets camp at the Nairn Sports club where we played squash, tennis and badminton. Of the three, squash was my favourite so I started weekly lessons at the club then over the years progressed to regional then national squads. I was always a keen sportsman with particular passion for football and golf as well as squash.
What are the best and most challenging things about your sport?
The best thing about squash is that I’ve had the opportunity to travel and meet so many people whilst playing a sport I love and the most frustrating aspect at the moment is not being able to play.
What have been your biggest achievements to date?
My first time representing Scotland as a 14 year old in the Five Nations – our first game was against Wales and we won the tie.
What are your goals in your sport?
As I turned 19 over the summer, this is my first season as a senior so I am looking to make a smooth transition and continue my development as much as I can without competition. During the pandemic I have realised the importance of having purpose to every session, i.e. having a specific focus on what I’m trying to improve on during training. Ultimately I would like to represent Scotland at a major tournament at a senior level.
What do you do to relax when you’re not training or competing?
I am a keen golfer and play off 10. I am a member at Nairn and Nairn Dunbar Golf Club at home and play at Merchants of Edinburgh when I am at uni. I also love football; I grew up playing for my local team Nairn County and am an avid Aberdeen and Manchester United fan.
Who is your sporting icon, and why?
Sir Alex Ferguson because he was an absolute winner and brilliant leader and was able to get the most out of his players through the respect they had for him.
