Course: BEng (Hons) Computing & Electronics, 3rd year
Club: Bradford on Avon Canoe Club

How did you get into your sport?

At the age of nine, I was introduced to paddlesports on a multi-activity outdoor education course during my summer holidays. Shortly after, I joined a local canoe club, where I was introduced to competition.

What are the best and most challenging things about your sport?

Wildwater Canoeing is best described as the paddlesport equivalent of downhill skiing, where competitors time-trial a predetermined course. I enjoy many aspects of the sport, particularly being outdoors on a river somewhere, but by far the most rewarding is the team atmosphere during training.

What have been your biggest achievements to date?

In 2017, I placed 8th in the Mens K1 Sprint event at the Junior World Championships in Murau, Austria.

What are your goals in your sport?

My main sporting goal is to get as quick as possible, whilst balancing training and competition with university work.

What do you do to relax when you’re not training or competing?

In my spare time, I enjoy hill-walking, running and a variety of other outdoor activities.

Who is your sporting icon, and why?

My sporting icon is K2 200m Double Olympic medallist Jon Schofield. After a very successful junior career in Wildwater Racing, Jon switched his focus to the Olympic Flatwater Sprint Event. Whilst paddling, Jon shows excellent technical ability and agility; his example has been a great inspiration to me.
