As we look back on the 2024/25 season, it’s clear that sport continues to play a powerful role in shaping student life at Heriot-Watt.
Across more than 300 British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) and Scottish Student Sport fixtures, our teams delivered over 200 Watt Wins, securing 6 League Titles and 2 Cup Wins – placing us 45th in the BUCS standings and 6th in Scotland.
Off the field, our social events brought together nearly 1,500 students, with highlights including the Sports Ball, Ceilidh, and Strictly Come Dancing.
11 clubs were awarded Gold WattMark through our sector-leading Club Development Programme, expertly delivered by Ben G. – recognising outstanding commitment to growth, governance, and inclusivity.
Behind all this success are our incredible army of over 300 volunteers dedicating nearly 21,000 hours to supporting our clubs and students (equivalent to 11.5 full-time roles!!) Their contribution is nothing short of extraordinary!
A special thank you to our dedicated staff team Alex Chan – Taylor, David Lambie, Ben G. Chris Sellar Karen Campbell and Ross Campbell – for working tirelessly behind the scenes to make sport happen. Your efforts are truly appreciated by the entire Watt Family.
Perhaps most powerfully, 96% of students reported that sport had a positive impact on their wellbeing, which speaks volumes about the impact of our sporting community on the wider student experience.
Hereโs to another incredible year – and to all those who make it possible. ๐๐
A huge thank you and kudos to Holly Dunlop for creating this fantastic video that perfectly captures another stand-out year for the Sports Union!
