At Heriot-Watt Sports Union we offer a wide variety of recreational sport opportunities for all students.
What is Rec Sport?
Recreational sports are physical activities participated in for fun, relaxation, and personal enjoyment rather than competition or professional goals. They emphasise inclusivity, health benefits, and social interaction. These sports are flexible, low-pressure, and accessible, requiring minimal commitment or specialised equipment, making them ideal for people of all ages and skill levels.
Sports Union Clubs
All of our Clubs offer recreational sessions for any member. These sessions are open to everyone and to all abilities. Whether you have played before or completely new to the sport, our clubs offer something for everyone. You can find a list of our sports clubs and session times here:
Active Residencies Programme
Active Residencies is a physical activity programme designed for Heriot-Watt University students living in University accommodation. The programme is open to all students, no matter their experience with sport and physical activity. Activities have a core aim to support student physical, mental and social health and as such, range in nature – some sport focused, some relaxation.
The project is run between Active Wellbeing and ResLife, with activities delivered by ResLife Wardens and hosted at Oriam.
Sessions include football, badminton and table tennis which take place on a weekly basis, and dance which takes place monthly. All sessions are free and bookable via the Oriam App.
