The Challenge

We’re asking our global community to join our Strava Club and record 1000 hours exercise during Consolidation Week 2020 (Week 6), by each member committing to at least 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise* across the week. The more we each do, the bigger our collective total!

If you’re Edinburgh campus based and looking to kick-start your 2.5 hours, why not kick off your week by joining us on our Consolidation Week Campus 5K Fun Run on Tuesday 20th?!

Monday 19th October, 00.01, to Sunday 25th October, 18.00 (BST). Follow us on social media all week to track our collective progress!

Experts recommend that all adults who are able, should undertake at least 2.5 hours of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise each week. If you’re not there yet, then why not get things started by joining our Global Fitness Challenge and being part of a collective effort that unites our community?

We all know that physical exercise is so important for our mental health and wellbeing and that’s never been more critical than it is right now during these extraordinary times.

Who can join?

Anyone connected to the HWU global community can join. Whether you’re a current student, alumni, staff or have some connection to our WattFamily, it doesn’t matter where you are in the world. The more the merrier!

Want to make it really count?

Once you’ve ticked off your 2.5 hours, why not celebrate by making a donation to a good cause? If you’re most closely connected with the Edinburgh Campus, we’d love to suggest a £5 donation to the Sports Union’s Charity Partner, Lothian Disability Sport.

Spread the word!

Don’t forget to shout about it on social media once you’ve completed your 2.5 hours total, tagging us and using #HWUGlobalFitnessChallenge2020.

How do I join?

  1. Download the FREE Strava app
  2. Join the HWU Strava Club (if you don’t already have a Strava account you’ll need to create one first)
  3. Record your activities by hitting the ‘START’ button each time you head out for some exercise. Make sure you first select the correct ‘sport’ by clicking on the activity type icon above the start button. *IMPORTANT! Strava only includes ‘Run’, ‘Ride’ and ‘Swim’ activity types towards the Club’s total hours. So if you’re going for a brisk walk, make sure you choose ‘run’ as the sport and it will still count.
