“I have truly broadened my horizons, and met so many different people inculuding some of my best friends. I never thought volunteering could be so much fun!”

Nikole Maliavskaja, SU Ambassador

Sports Union Ambassadors represent the values and culture of our WattFamily and encourage participation in our SU activities throughout the year, wearing a bright yellow tshirt and a big welcoming smile! There are two types of SU Ambassador; Lead and Event.

Lead Ambassadors assist the SU President, Executive and Staff Team in the promotion and delivery of SU activities. Each Sports Union Executive Officer relies on a small team of Lead Ambassadors to help them deliver their own remit. In turn, Lead Ambassadors have their own team of Event Ambassadors to support them.

Why become an SU Ambassador?

Being an SU Ambassador is a great way to develop personally and professionally. Our Ambassadors typically develop the following during their time in the role:

  • Communication skills
  • Organisation skills
  • Social skills
  • Time Management skills
  • Self-Awareness
  • Punctuality

It’s also a great way to meet people and make new friends. Freshers’ Week is a particularly busy time for our Ambassadors but it’s also a lot of fun!

“My volunteer experience has been absolutely amazing! It has been a great way to meet new people after a year of limited in person activities. We got to talk to so many freshers and new students and had the chance to show them how amazing it is to be part of the SU!”

HAZEL MCNEILL, SU CHARITIES EXEC & AMBASSADOR

Where next?

Once you have served at least one academic year as an SU Ambassador, you will be eligible to stand for election to the SU Executive Committee, which can ultimately lead to going for Sports Union President!

How do I become an SU Ambassador?

There is an application process towards the end of Semester 2 for the following academic year. This typically requires you to submit a video telling us why you think you’d be great at the role. The incoming and outgoing Sports President and VP then select around 30 Ambassadors. You’ll find out if you have been successful around May and your role will then officially start the week before Freshers.

Can anyone apply?

Members of any SU Club are welcome to apply.

You are welcome to serve as an SU Ambassador alongisde a Club Committee role.

SU Intern

If you can’t wait until September to get back invovled with the SU, then becoming an SU Intern will ease that withdrawl! We’re looking for interns who can come in and help the staff team get set for the start of semester, lead by the SU President, you’ll find out exactly how the SU works behind the scenes, and gain experience that’ll give you that head start when you go out in the world of work!
